England, UK. 21.2.1997. London. 'Bridgewater Three' freed. L-R James Robinson and cousins Vincent and Michael Hickey freed after 18 years in prison for the murder of 13-year-old paper boy Carl Bridgewater. This appalling miscarriage of justice arose from the confession of a fourth man who has already died in prison, Patrick Malloy, which should have been ruled inadmissible. The police were accused of forging a statement purporting to come from Vincent Hickey, which Malloy had said tricked him into making his confession after being shown it. Electrostatic document analysis tests confirmed that the statement was a forgery. Since they were jailed in 1979, the men had always protested their innocence but it took six separate police inquiries and three full appeals for them to walk free...Copyright © 1997 Andrew Wiard.W: www.reportphotos.com.E: info@reportphotos.com.
