England, UK. 13.7.1996. Hillingdon. Hillingdon Hospital Strike. Demonstration by Unison members, cleaning, cooking and portering staff, mainly asian women, on strike after private contractors Pall Mall cut their pay.
The strike lasted five years from 1st October 1995 to 29th October 2000. Unison steward Malkiat Bilku then led her members back to work on their original terms and conditions with no victimisations and compensation for unfair dismissal. Malkiat Bilku speaking.
