1994 Waiting for the Bailiffs, Claremont Road.
Claremont Road was the last stand of anti-motorway protesters blocking the path of the M11 link road, which was about to flatten these houses. The last resident, 92-year old Dolly Watson, who was born in number 32 on Claremont Road and had lived there nearly all her life was defying an order to move. When the bailiffs eventually came escorted by hundreds of police the operation to clear the street, culminating in a siege of the last man on top of the watchtower, cost over one million pounds in policing alone. 28.11.1994...
