GRUNWICK: SCARGILL'S MINERS ARRIVE AT THE FACTORY GATES 1977. For weeks the police and their Special Patrol Group had forced a way through mass pickets to allow a bus of strike breakers to work in the Grunwick laboratory. In response the massed ranks of the British trade unions travelled hundreds of miles to support the women workers and close down the factory as they marched past the gates. Here, Arthur Scargill arrives, leading his miners in a biblical scene. And these are just the Yorkshire members of the National Union of Mineworkers, stretching as far back as the eye can see. The Grunwick strikers never achieved recognition but won a great moral victory and brought immigrant workforces into the mainstream of British unions...Copyright © 1977 Andrew Wiard.W: www.reportphotos.com.E: info@reportphotos.com
