Joy Gardner collapsed after being restrained by the Metropolitan Police Service's Aliens Deportation Group, suffering brain damage from asphyxia, dying on August 1st 1993 from cardiac arrest. Her mother and son at a demonstration in her memory, London, 7.8.1993.

Demonstration in memory of Joy Gardner, who collapsed unable to breath on July 28th after being restrained with handcuffs, leather straps and tape around her head by police from the Metropolitan Police Service's Aliens Deportation Group. After suffering brain damage from asphyxia she died on August 1st from cardiac arrest. Three police officers were tried for manslaughter but were acquitted.
